Ehingen an der Donau has around 27,300 residents and lies on the upper Danube in the Alb-Donau-Kreis of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The town calls itself the "Bierkulturstadt" (beer culture town), with five active breweries for its modest size. The Marktplatz features Baroque and Renaissance facades. Ehingen was a seat of the Habsburg Vorderoesterreich administration until 1805.
Ulm is about 25 kilometres east. Riedlingen lies upstream on the Danube. Blaubeuren is to the northeast at the Blautopf spring. The Schwabische Alb escarpment rises north of the town. Biberach an der Riss is roughly 30 kilometres south. The Grosse Lauter valley, a nature reserve, begins nearby.
