Eppingen lies in the Landkreis Heilbronn of Baden-Wuerttemberg, with about 21,180 inhabitants. The Altstadt contains a dense collection of half-timbered houses, including the Baumann'sches Haus from 1582, one of the oldest surviving timber-frame buildings in the Kraichgau region. The town straddles the border between the Kraichgau hills and the Zabergaeu, a small wine-growing valley.
Heilbronn is roughly 25 kilometres east. Bruchsal lies to the west. Sinsheim is to the south. The Stadtkirche, a late-Gothic church, and the remains of the medieval town wall with the Pfeifferturm tower round out the old town's architectural highlights. Wine and fruit cultivation on the surrounding hillsides continue a long tradition.
