Kornwestheim is home to around 31,000 people and sits directly north of Stuttgart in Baden-Wuerttemberg. The Salamander shoe company operated its main factory here for over a century, and the industrial legacy is visible in the converted factory buildings. The Kleihues housing development brought modernist cube architecture to the former industrial site.
Ludwigsburg is the immediate neighbour to the north, with its famous baroque palace. Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof is about 15 minutes by S-Bahn. The town is densely built and urban in character, part of the unbroken Stuttgart agglomeration. Zuffenhausen and Stammheim border to the south. A large railway marshalling yard occupies the eastern part of the town.
