Metzingen: Outlet City at the Foot of the Schwaebische Alb
Metzingen has about 22,110 inhabitants and lies in the Landkreis Reutlingen of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The town is best known as the headquarters of Hugo Boss and for the Outletcity Metzingen, a large designer outlet shopping complex that attracts millions of visitors annually from across Europe and Asia. What began as a single factory sale at Hugo Boss in the 1970s has grown into a retail destination with dozens of luxury and premium fashion brands.
Reutlingen is roughly 10 kilometres south. Stuttgart is about 35 kilometres north. The Erms river flows through Metzingen, and the Schwaebische Alb escarpment rises steeply to the east, with the vineyards on the lower slopes producing Trollinger and Lemberger wines typical of Wuerttemberg.
