Waiblingen: Stihl Headquarters, Rems Valley, and the Staufer Town Between Stuttgart and Schwaebisch Gmuend
Waiblingen has a population around 53,000 and lies on the Rems river in Baden-Wuerttemberg, about 10 kilometres northeast of Stuttgart. Stihl, the world's leading chainsaw and outdoor power equipment manufacturer, has its global headquarters here. The Ghibellines (Ghibellinen), the medieval Italian faction supporting the Holy Roman Emperor, possibly took their name from Waiblingen, the Hohenstaufen family seat.
The Altstadt retains sections of its medieval wall and the Hochwachtturm (watchtower). The Galerie Stihl Waiblingen shows photography and works on paper in a modern building on the Rems riverbank. The Beinsteiner Tor is the most complete surviving gate. The Rems-Murr-Kreis administration is based here. The Talaue, a park along the Rems, provides recreation.
