Bad Kissingen: UNESCO World Heritage Spa Town on the Fraenkische Saale
Bad Kissingen lies on the Fraenkische Saale in the Landkreis Bad Kissingen of Bayern. About 21,330 people live here. In 2021, the town was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Great Spa Towns of Europe, alongside places like Bath and Karlovy Vary. The Wandelhalle, one of the largest covered promenades in Europe at over 580 metres, the Regentenbau concert hall, and the extensive Kurpark along the river form the core of the spa infrastructure. Bismarck visited repeatedly in the 1870s and 1880s, and the town capitalised on this association.
Wuerzburg is about 55 kilometres south. Schweinfurt lies to the southeast. The Rhoen hills begin east of town. The Kissinger Sommer, a classical music festival, draws performers and audiences to the Regentenbau each year.
