Schloss Senden, a partly ruined moated castle, is undergoing a long-term restoration by a citizens' association and occasionally opens for events. The town developed from an agricultural village into a commuter settlement for Muenster over the second half of the 20th century, with new residential areas built around the old core.
Duelmen lies to the south. Luedinghausen is to the southwest. The Muensterland here is flat and open, with farms, hedgerows, and scattered Wasserburgen, the moated castles characteristic of the region.
