Eilbek is a densely built residential district in Hamburg's Mitte borough, home to about 22,240 people. The Wandse, a small stream, runs through the district and feeds into the Eilbekkanal before reaching the Alster. Much of Eilbek was destroyed in the 1943 firestorm bombing and rebuilt in the post-war years with apartment blocks typical of the 1950s. The Hasselbrook S-Bahn station connects the district to central Hamburg and the eastern suburbs.
Barmbek borders to the north. Wandsbek is to the east. Eilbek's character is defined by its compact residential blocks, a few surviving pre-war buildings along Wandsbeker Chaussee, and the green corridor along the Wandse that provides walking space through the otherwise dense urban fabric.
