Karben has about 21,640 inhabitants and lies in the Wetteraukreis of Hessen, directly north of Frankfurt am Main. The S-Bahn connects the town to Frankfurt's centre in roughly 25 minutes, and its population has grown steadily as the Rhein-Main region expands northward. The Nidda river flows along the western edge of the municipality.
Bad Vilbel borders to the south. Friedberg, the Wetterau district capital, is about 10 kilometres north. The Wetterau is one of Hessen's most fertile agricultural regions, with loess soils supporting arable farming. The Roemerstrasse, a Roman road, once passed through the area, and archaeological finds from the Roman frontier period have been made locally.
