Obertshausen: Leather Industry Heritage Between Offenbach and Hanau
Obertshausen is a town of about 24,450 inhabitants in the Offenbach district of Hessen, wedged between Offenbach am Main and Hanau in the eastern Rhine-Main agglomeration. The leather and shoe industry shaped Obertshausen's economy from the 19th century well into the postwar period. While large-scale production has mostly moved elsewhere, the legacy remains visible in former factory buildings.
