Obertshausen is a town of about 24,450 inhabitants in the Offenbach district of Hessen, wedged between Offenbach am Main and Hanau in the eastern Rhine-Main agglomeration. The leather and shoe industry shaped Obertshausen's economy from the 19th century well into the postwar period. While large-scale production has mostly moved elsewhere, the legacy remains visible in former factory buildings. The S-Bahn connects Obertshausen to Frankfurt's central station in about 25 minutes, making it a commuter town. Heusenstamm borders to the west, Rodgau to the south.
