Stadtallendorf: Armaments History and Industrial Town in the Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf
Stadtallendorf has about 21,720 inhabitants and lies in the Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf of Hessen. During the Second World War, two large explosives factories operated here using forced labour. The Documentation and Information Centre documents this history and the post-war transformation of the site. After 1945, many displaced persons settled in the town, and later waves of guest workers and their descendants have given Stadtallendorf one of the highest proportions of residents with migration backgrounds in rural Hessen.
Marburg is roughly 20 kilometres southwest. Kirchhain is nearby to the south. The Ferndorf industrial estate hosts several manufacturing companies. The terrain is rolling Hessen upland, with arable farming and small patches of forest between the settlements.
