Taunusstein has roughly 29,500 inhabitants and sits on the western Taunus ridge in Hessen, directly above Wiesbaden. The municipality was formed in 1971 by merging several villages, with Hahn as the administrative centre. The Aar stream valley cuts through the wooded landscape, providing walking routes.
