Buckow: Gropiusstadt Border, Southern Neukoelln, and the Residential Enclave Between Britz and Rudow
Buckow is a neighbourhood in Berlin's Neukoelln borough with a population around 40,100. The area lies between Britz to the north and Rudow to the south, forming part of Neukoelln's suburban fringe. Not to be confused with the spa town Buckow in the Maerkische Schweiz, this Berlin Buckow is purely residential with low-rise housing and garden plots (Schrebergaerten).
The Gropiusstadt, a large 1960s housing estate designed under Walter Gropius's supervision, borders Buckow to the west. Christiane F., whose autobiographical account of drug addiction shocked Germany in 1978, grew up there. The Britzer Garten park is accessible from Buckow's northern edge. The neighbourhood is served by the U7 line, connecting to the city centre in about 30 minutes. The Buckower Damm is the main road. Allotment garden colonies provide green space. Adult companionship follows Berlin's city-state regulations.
