The Wisentgehege Springe is a wildlife park keeping European bison, wolves and other native species in forest enclosures. The Deister, a forested sandstone ridge about 20 kilometres long, offers hiking and mountain biking above the town.
Hannover is about 25 kilometres north. Bad Muender lies to the southwest. Barsinghausen is along the Deister to the northwest. Hameln is roughly 30 kilometres west. The old town centre has a compact half-timbered core. The S-Bahn connects Springe to Hannover.
