Schwerin has a population around 97,000 and is the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, making it Germany's smallest Landeshauptstadt. Schwerin was the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg for centuries and retains a courtly atmosphere unusual for a city its size.
