Alsdorf: Aachen Coalfield, Anna Mine Legacy, and the Energeticon
Alsdorf has a population around 46,300 and sits in the Staedteregion Aachen in Nordrhein-Westfalen, about 12 kilometres northeast of Aachen. The Anna mine, one of the last hard coal mines in the Aachen coalfield, closed in 1983 after a mining disaster in 1930 that killed 271 workers.
