Aplerbeck is a district of Dortmund in Nordrhein-Westfalen with a population around 56,000. Located in the city's south, Aplerbeck has a more suburban, residential character than the Dortmund centre. The Aplerbecker Wald, a forested area, provides walking trails and recreation. The Aplerbecker Mark, the southern portion of the district, borders on rural Westphalia.
The Haus Rodenberg, a moated castle now used as a cultural venue, is the district's historical centrepiece. The Emscherquellhof in nearby Holzwickede marks the source of the Emscher river, which flows north through the Ruhr industrial heartland. The S-Bahn connects Aplerbeck to Dortmund Hauptbahnhof in about 15 minutes. The district's economy is largely residential with some light industry and retail.
