The Battle of the Reichswald (Operation Veritable, February 1945) was fought in the forest east of Goch, one of the fiercest engagements in the Allied advance into Germany. The Reichswald Forest War Cemetery holds over 7,600 Commonwealth graves.
The Steintor, a surviving medieval gate tower, marks the old town centre. The Museum Goch exhibits modern and contemporary art.
