Kamp-Lintfort has a population around 39,500 and lies on the Lower Rhine in Nordrhein-Westfalen, about 15 kilometres northwest of Duisburg. Kloster Kamp, founded in 1123 as the first Cistercian monastery in the German-speaking world, sits on a hill above the town. The restored Terrassengarten (terraced garden) recreates a baroque monastic garden and is the town's most striking feature.
The Bergwerk West coal mine, which closed in 2012, was the last deep mine on the left bank of the Rhine. The Zechenpark Friedrich Heinrich, built on the former mining site, hosted parts of the Landesgartenschau (state garden show) in 2020 and has been transformed into a public park with a lake. The Hochschule Rhein-Waal operates a campus in the former mining administration buildings. Duisburg and Moers are close neighbours. Adult companionship is regulated under NRW law.
