Meckenheim: Apple Orchards of the Vorgebirge, Swistbach Valley, and the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis Town Between Bonn and the Eifel Foothills
Meckenheim has about 25,500 inhabitants and lies in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis of Nordrhein-Westfalen, southwest of Bonn. The surrounding Vorgebirge area is known for intensive fruit cultivation, particularly apple orchards that blossom in spring. The Swistbach stream flows through the town towards the Erft. A former military housing area has been converted into a residential district, significantly expanding the town since the 1990s.
Bonn is roughly 15 kilometres northeast. Rheinbach is adjacent to the southwest. Wachtberg lies to the south. The Kottenforst, a large beech forest, borders the town to the north. The flat-to-gently-rolling terrain transitions from the Rhine plain towards the Eifel foothills. Meckenheim's Neuer Markt serves as the commercial centre.
