Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler has about 27,800 residents and lies in the Ahr valley of Rheinland-Pfalz, within the Ahrweiler district. The town combines two distinct parts: Bad Neuenahr's spa quarter with thermal springs and a Kurpark, and Ahrweiler's medieval walled old town with complete gate towers. The Ahr valley produces red wine, predominantly Spaetburgunder (Pinot Noir), from steep slate slopes.
Bonn is about 30 kilometres northeast. Koblenz lies roughly 50 kilometres southeast. The July 2021 flood devastated sections of the Ahr valley, and reconstruction continues. The Eifel plateau rises to the west. Remagen on the Rhine is about 10 kilometres east. The Rotweinwanderweg (red wine hiking trail) follows the valley.
