Zweibruecken has a population around 35,200 and lies in the Westpfalz (western Palatinate) in Rheinland-Pfalz, close to the French border and the Saarland. The Zweibruecker Rosengarten, with over 45,000 rose bushes, is one of Europe's largest rose gardens. The town was the seat of the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibruecken, and the ducal Schloss is now used as a court building.
The former US military airbase Zweibruecken has been converted into a commercial and retail area, including a fashion outlet centre. The Schwarzbach river gives the town its name (two bridges). The Alexanderskirche contains ducal tombs. Saarbruecken is about 30 kilometres east. The Pfaelzerwald forest begins to the northeast. Adult companionship is governed by Rheinland-Pfalz state law.
