Friedrich Schiller wrote much of his Ode to Joy here during the summer of 1785, and the Schillerhaus, his former lodging, is now a museum. Gohliser Schloss, a Baroque garden palace from 1756, serves as a concert and event venue and is one of the few surviving Baroque country houses in the Leipzig area.
