Goerbitz is a district in western Dresden, Sachsen, with about 21,600 inhabitants. Built primarily in the 1980s as a Plattenbau housing estate, Goerbitz was one of the last large socialist-era residential developments in the GDR. The prefabricated concrete panel blocks have undergone extensive renovation since reunification, with reduced building heights, improved insulation, and redesigned green spaces.
Dresden's city centre is about 7 kilometres east. Kesselsdorf and the Tharandter Wald lie to the west. The district sits on elevated terrain above the Weisseritz valley. The Sachsen-Therme, a large swimming and sauna complex, is located at the eastern edge of Goerbitz and serves as a recreation facility for the wider Dresden area.
